SWEET & SOUR: Reviewing Harold Edwards’ Latest and Beyond

Harold Edwards has given up — at least for a while — three-dimensional work, but his paintings play on the same mathematical themes.
IF YOU GO: See Harold Edwards’ latest work and other artwork at The Art Store, 1013 Bridge Road, through march 29, 2008.

SOUR: Well, do you think he achieved it? Are his 2- paintings as good as his previously acclaimed 3-D pieces? Harold has a medical problem with his working manshardship on his 3-d works. Did he present something as good, with his physical problems?”
SWEET: Yeah, I do, think so, these paintings are, all in all, really great. As good if not better than his 3-d pieces.”
__________
SOUR: “I think some of them are better than others. Well, but that’s the case for about every show…”
SWEET: These 2-D pieces of Harold’s are great. Actually, I think they are better than some of his earlier “high maintenance” 3-D works.
__________
SOUR: As he says: “Love, it’s pretty and soft, until you get too close to it, ,” or something to that effect.
SWEET: Well, yeah, that’s mostly the way it really is., you and I both know and have experienced that, for real.
__________
SOUR: Yeah, a rose is a rose, is a rose… as Gertrude Stein or somebody said. With thorns — especially with the bruising bloodletting thorns. Yeah, we’ve all been through that. What else is showing of late that is remarkable?”
SWEET: Robin Hammer’s and Chris Dutch’s two-person show at the Clay Center is really great. Go see it, especially since this new curator Barbara Racker (whom we don’t really know, but have snooped out some gossip about) has made it free , yes, FREE, for the regular person to see, on some days…. Kudos for her for doing that!
__________
SOUR: “Yeah, I saw it. They also filled out the space with an excellent show, which complemented he WVSO’s “Rite of Spring Show” really well.”
SWEET: Nice to see them over there at the Clay Center working together. ‘Rite of Spring’ was nice on all accounts.”
