Nothing says “I love you” like the gift of Beer…

Like me, you probably have many friends and loved ones on your Christmas list that are tough to buy for… Chances are that one of them may also be a beer lover, or even a beer geek! I have come up with a failsafe list of “beer geeky” items that will put a big sudsy smile on the face of the beer geek in your life.

I present to you the 2007 “Beers to You” Holiday Shopping Guide…

beeradvocate_magazine_inaugural_issue_cover.jpgSubscription to BeerAdvocate magazine- This is a great magazine for anyone interested in the American Craft-beer movement. It contains lots of pretty pictures of beer and stories about drinking it… (www.beeradvocate.com)

beercompanion.jpgMichael Jackson’s Beer Companion – This is the Beer Geek’s bible… It is currently out of print and is selling for well above sticker-price. It can be found here…

rx-symbol.png“Beers to You” custom-selected “Mix Pack” – That’s right! If you send me a nice email, describing some of your loved one’s favorite beers, I will put together a list for a special 6-pack or 12-pack that you can take to one of our local beer retailers; kind of like a “Beer Prescription”. (rireland@suddenlink.net)

brewtable.jpg“The Brewmasters Table” by Garret Oliver- This is an essential book for the beer geek library. Click here for my review.

Here are few gifts that require a bit of effort, but go the extra mile…

hb-tent-2.jpgA trip to Munich’s Hofbrauhaus (well, almost…) - After a short 3.5 hour drive, you will soon find yourself snapping that photo of your favorite beer geek, grinning ear to ear whilst holding a 1 liter stein of real German beer and staring at a plate of authentic German food. The Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY (across the river from downtown Cincinnati) is an official brewery and restaurant outpost of its well-known German namesake. Lederhosen optional… (www.hofbrauhausnewport.com)

samadamsutopias.jpgA $200 bottle of Sam Adams – I know… You think I am crazy! At upwards of $200 per bottle, Samuel Adams Utopias is a limited release and is a hard find. This is the strongest beer in the world at 26%abv. Utopias is to be sipped like cognac or brandy. If you buy this as a gift, make sure you steal a taste before you wrap it, because once you give this to a beer geek, you will never even get a whiff of it again… www.beeradvocate.com/news/1039677

Humbug! Where do you think you are, Canada? We don’t fill free prescriptions here at “Beers to You!

Anyway, thanks for reading Glenn and have a Merry Christmas…

BTW, you would be able to fill a much stronger prescription in Virginia than here in CRW…

  4. Mike Dillion Says:

The mix ‘n match deal at The Wine Shop in The Capitol Market is a great gift idea, too. When you buy six different beers, you get a ten percent discount on your purchase. It’s good way to sample different beers without buying a whole six pack, and giving it as a gift is a good way to introduce macro-lager drinkers to good beers that they may never try otherwise.

  5. Rich Ireland Says:

I just wish they could keep the beer cold and out of the light…
