Let’s Save O’Kays Pub!

okays-beer.jpgFor any of you that have stopped in to Okay’s Pub recently, you may be aware of the absolute run of bad luck that owner Kay Dillon has experienced in the last six months, from her son’s tragic accident in Thailand (leaving him paralyzed from the waist down) to Kay’s own health issues. Kay is doing much better. Her son is adjusting to his new challenges and her younger son Dylan has been a real trooper, helping his mother and brother through these tough times. All of this has left the “cash drawer” in bad shape. Kay almost threw in the towel this week, but many of her supporters and confidants inspired her to give it one more try to get over the hump this weekend.

Starting Friday evening and throughout this weekend, Kay needs your support. I am not talking about a pity party either. Kay just needs patrons to do what they normally do; stop by and have a beer or a glass of wine, order up a grilled pizza and maybe listen to tunes from Charleston’s own “Honky-Tonk Power Trio” Buckstone.

Why should we care if Okay’s lives or dies? It’s simple… Okay’s is a unique, maybe even quirky pub that prides itself on serving great beer and great wine. Kay has been an ardent supporter of the arts and music scene in Charleston as well as just a dear friend to all of her patrons. Be sure to tell all of your friends!

Okay’s Pub is Located at 222 Leon Sullivan Way in downtown Charleston.

If you haven’t been to O’Kays, you are missing out on one of the most comfortable places to socialize. Great people, great beverages and Kay is known for her fine recommendations of wine and beer. She’s not just the owner–she is a fabulous hostess. Try it out…just once and you’ll see why her regulars want O’kays to Stay!!!

[…] Word comes from Rich Ireland’s “Beers To You” Gazzblog that Charleston’s O’Kays, located near the Clay Center, is in dire straits due to a number of circumstances beyond their control.  O’Kay’s is one of Charleston’s unicque bar experiences, and it’d be a shame to lose it.  If we can rally the troops so that they have a good weekend, we might get to see them stick around and serve as Charleston’s special pub for years to come.  […]

I’ve never been, but would love to come down this weekend and try it out. What are the hours? Is it kid-friendly?
    Thanks!

I really am not sure quite how to express my gratitude to rich, cindy boggs, doug imbrogno, john brown and all the other on-line and word-of- mouth supporters we have both in charleston and elsewhere. Since my emotions are quite astir at present, I shall avoid being maudlin by expressing my humble thanks on behalf of my family and me. We will strive to take the confidence and complements and do our best to “save the neighborhood pub”. God bless you all for rallying around us so confidently and often. And yes, we are very kid friendly. We have a kid’s menu, special placemats, crayons, coloring books, etc. We have also had special kid’s music programs with Mountain Stage music director and accoustic guitarist Ron Sowell. We hope to begin those again soon. Check The Gazz on thursdays for more information (in the past these programs have been on saturdays from 3-4pm). Presently we are retooling lunch and will be open for dinner monday through saturday at 4:30. Check out our new web site created by patron dan brunton at www.okayspub.com. I presently only have a blackberry on which to go on-line, so updates to the web site may be slow in coming. But, as we have learn through our stewardship of this unique cultural phenomenon, much patience is required of the small business owner and their loyal supporters. We owe a debt of gratitude to ours. Remember, think global, eat local-and please come see us soon. We appreciate your business; it is our life blood!

This is just a great place all the way around. It wins on every point.

    Let’s support this place y’all!

Well, It’s Over… Kay shut the doors after holding somewhat of a Halloween night blow-out.

I can only wish Kay the best of luck in whatever she does next and also hope that we get another beer cafe as good!
