From the Mouth of Macro-beer - A Very Stupid Beer Quote…
“There’s really no beer like it because it uses 100 percent barley. Our top seller is the Black Label brand, using additional ingredients such as rice. This one doesn’t, and is really a special beer,” Junichi Ichikawa, managing directory for strategy at Sapporo breweries, told a news conference on Tuesday.
Mr. Ichikawa was referring to a beer that was made with barley which had been cultivated on the International Space Station. He obviously knows little about any other beer than his company’s rice laden swill. There are countless brands and styles of beer that are made with 100% barley, beer that’s not made with 100% barley is the exception and not the rule! Ingredients like rice and corn are called “adjuncts” and are generally considered a cheap “filler” type ingredient. Adjuncts allow beers like Bud, Coors and obviously Sapporo deliver a full beer’s worth of alcohol with about half of the flavor. Yum?

Wow, the next thing some idiot Macro-Exec is going to say is “Cash-strapped people are going to trade down to economy beers”. ; )

I’ve got a question and I didn’t know where to ask, so I’ll ask here; would a beer drinker like you know anything about hard cider? I know it isn’t beer but I heard someone mentioning it around the holidays and I was wondering if it was easily available around these parts and if it would qualify for some type of write up in your blog. Thanks.

If you are talking about commercially bottled cider (like Woodchuck or Hornsby’s). You can find it at Premier Liquor or some Kroger’s in the area. Some people make cider as a hot drink around the holidays. If that’s what you’re talking about, someone else may have a better answer for you.

I’m talking about the alcoholic version. During Thanksgiving, a family member made the holiday hot drink version (the non-alcoholic kind) and that struck up a conversation about hard cider. No family members knew much about it so that’s why I came here. Thanks for your help!
By the way, is hard cider any good? I’m a beer man myself but I thought I might bring a few bottles home for Christmas, since we were talking about it. Thanks again.

The Woodchuck’s and Hornsby’s both have about
5-6 % alcohol and yea they’re pretty decent for something different.

Some things are as constant as the Northern Star. Macro-brew execs talking out of their asses is one such thing. Personally, I find it comforting since it leads me to believe the crafty ones (there’s a pun there, get it? Huh? Never mind) will prevail in the end. I may be dead by then, but we’ll win. “There’s no beer like it” Sheesh. Idiot.
And as for hard cider, the Woodchuck/Hornsby’s stuff is okay. Worth a shot, anyway. And they’re clearly better than the Beast. I say give it a try.

Hey Rich, is it true West Virginia Brewing has closed? Anyone else want to confirm/debunk this?
If so…enh, I can’t even curse about it. I’m just very, very sad.
I fear there is no hope for beer in this state.

Micro-brews all the way. Not only are macro’s obviously stupid (as shown in the quote) - but they just don’t have the passion.

With a name like “wheat Beer Glasses” I thought you may want to take me to task for not calling out the obvious exception - Wheat Beer! In the big picture, you have to agree that wheat beer would be the exception and not the rule…
