Blogging up to The Bar
I would like to introduce my readers to iBlogger, an iPhone application that let’s me post mini-blog postings from the road. I am stranded in Columbus tonight due to snow but Don’t worry, I have positioned myself at a hotel that is within walking distance of 3 brewpubs. I am enjoying am excellent doppelbock at Gordon Biersch.
Stay tuned for more of these mini blogs when the "Beers to You" crew takes on Munich in a few weeks!

Enh, enough about your neato iPhone* already - how’s the beer?
*Sprint customers like me can’t get the shiny AT&T exclusive toy so we heap scorn and resentment on all who can.

You only got a pic of 1/2 the glass. How much did you pay for that? BB would have gotten the whole glass.

Rob, point taken… I was really posting to make sure all would be well when I use iBlogger to post. As for the beer, Gordon Biersch do German beers very well. Dan Gordon the Brewmaster (corporate wide) is the “Gordon” in Gordon Biersch. He was trained at Weihenstephan in Bavaria, and his beers taste just like Germanic brew. The Germans aren’t nearly as creative with beer styles as the Belgians or Americans, but whatever they brew is very good drinking.

Yeah, I’ve heard GB referred to as Penn Brewing West. And that’s a pretty good thing, all things considered.

I am glad to hear your “props” for Penn Brewing. It’s more important than ever, in this current craft-beer experimentation frenzy (not, saying that it’s a bad thing), that we can have brewery to go back to for the fundamentals. Penn and GB are two of them.

Hey, you familiar with what’s going on with Penn? The production has temporarily moved to the Lion across the state and the restaurant is closing. Seems the rent on the North Side place got jacked 350%. Owners are looking for another Pittsburgh area to reestablish the brewery/restaurant but at this point, who knows? Check the Post-Gazette site for more details and updates.
For the record, I wasn’t a huge Penn fan when I lived in PGH but I did enjoy the place when I did go (it wasn’t that high on my list, is what I’m saying, with Sharp Edge, Fatheads, East End, D’s, Rivertowne, etc. all competing for my drinking dollars. It did rank higher that the gimicky Church, though.) Maibock, Marzen/Oktoberfest, and the Kaiser Pils are all very good beers. St. Niklaus Bock is a great beer. I’m hopeful that they’ll get things worked out.
