FAST FOOD: Golden Arches, with a Little Tarnish

I realize this blog is supposed to be about some of the better, more upscale restaurants in our local area. But we all (go ahead, admit it) eat under the Golden Arches from time to time. This past Thursday morning I was in a bit of a hurry, so I ducked into the McDonalds at 3303 MacCorkle Avenue, SE in Kanawha City, across the street from CAMC Memorial Division.

While waiting for my order to be filled, I happened to glance to my right and what should I see but the most recent Health Department inspection findings. And boy, did they find plenty! A total of 17 violations, four of them critical. One of the critical violations was a repeat offense, as was one of the non-criticals.

The critical violations included two coolers that were too warm (the front cooler was 47 degrees and the salad cooler was 49 degrees), an employee taking a drink from an open cup, then continuing to prepare food without washing his or her hands (a repeat offense), and open drinking cups in a food preparation area.

Non-critical violations ran the gamut from a line sink being blocked by bun trays (another repeat offense), to a box of napkins and a wet mop being stored on the floor, to an employee’s necktie being dragged through food as it was being prepared.

There is no excuse for operating a restaurant in this manner. Needless to say, I won’t be visiting Ronald or Grimmace at this location again any time soon.
