Please note that today, Wednesday, October 17, 2008 is the OFFICIAL first day for the Pumpkin Donut at Donut Connection. That’s the good news. The bad news? They’re already sold out! Tomorrow’s gonna be another day…

In related news, the DC has also released a new, seasonal flavor: Caramel Apple. It’s an apple cake donut with caramel icing. Need I say anything more?

“Faddish”may not have been the proper word–perhaps if I’d said it’s a niche product…oh, well, I’ll deifnitely give it a try.

Drew from NJ–Jelly?! Now, if you’d suggested that cream cheese filling…but I get your point.

I’ll admit I’m not much of a pumpkin lover, with the exception of pumpking roll with cream cheese filling, but I will give them a try. But, as far my taste buds are concerned, nothing locally campares to SHPS–nothing.

Taste, like most things, is subjective, though, and that’s what I like about GazzBlogs. If nothing else, it’s agood place to find new places to eat and try new things for yourself.

By the way, have you tried Spring Hill’s cream-filled “hot dogs”? I highly recommend them, too.

Mike D,

OK? Faddish? (I’ll give you ’seasonal’ because that part is true.) Man, have you even tried one of these pumpkin pastries?

I agree that the Spring Hill Pastry Shop is a gem of a place (the cinnamon rolls are incredible), but the Donut Connection is far from being a ‘donut wannabe.’ I mean, c’mon - Donut is their mid, er, FIRST name!

Well, I’ve never met a donut I didn’t like, and I’m sure it will be the same for the pumpkin variety! I have an idea for another Holiday-themed donut — gingerbread!

Perhaps a job in R&D at Donut Connection is my true calling!

Pumkin Donuts may be OK, but they’re seasonal and faddish. For a REAL donut, available year round, nothing compares to the plain ‘ol glazed donut from Spring Hill Pastry Shop (600 Chestnut Street…768-7397)in South Charleston.

They may not have the variety of styles and flavors that all the franchise shops have, but Donut Connection, Krispy-Kreme,and all the other donut wannabe’s pale in comparison to SHPS. There may be other shops somewhere in the world as good as SHPS, but I can’t imagine them being any better!
