Food for Thought this Valentine’s Day
Any loyal reader of this blog has undoubtedly witnessed many mentions of the person I refer to at this time of year as my full-time Valentine – my wife, the Lovely Miss S. Just last month, Miss S celebrated a birthday (her 23rd, I think). Naturally, we celebrated with family, friends and food, and many gifts were rightfully lavished upon her. But it was her step-dad who was kind enough to send her a very special – not to mention delicious – birthday treat.
So delicious, in fact, that words have failed me. Luckily, Miss S herself was up for the challenge of describing such delectableness. What follows is her description of the Chocolate-Dipped Orange Wedges from Edible Arrangements.
“Absolutely Dreamy…”
It’s the only way to describe Edible Arrangements’ Chocolate-Dipped Orange Wedges. Imagine huge wedges of fresh, juicy, tart and tangy oranges dipped (perhaps double-dipped?) in rich, dense, dark chocolate. They are, in a word, sublime.
Now, I have never been crazy about the combination of fresh fruit and chocolate. I like both equally on their own (well, maybe chocolate a bit more), and thought that combining the two diminished the flavor of both. Not so these chocolate-dipped honeys. The appeal lies in their preparation.
The orange sections appear to be hand-segmented, and the chewy pith removed from the sides of the wedges. This helps a great deal when devouring them at work, or in front of your sweetie, because the pulp-between-the-teeth factor is kept to a minimum. Further, their Web site states they are hand-dipped in the dark chocolate, thus helping the fruit retain a greater density of chocolate coating, not to mention yumminess.
Along with the Orange Wedges, Edible Arrangements also dips strawberries, bananas, pineapple sections (called “daisies”), apples and pears. The oranges can be purchased by the box, for $25 per dozen; or nestled within one of their gorgeous fresh fruit arrangements.
My suggestion for a certain upcoming heart-shaped-box-giving holiday would be a box of these babies. They’re fresh, they’re scrumptious, they’re unique, and they just might make your sweetie so happy that they will be signing your praises well through Spring!

I think edible gifts make the best ones. They give you a chance to express a person’s individuality and put a smile on their face.
