Spring Fling, Forum-style
By Brooke A. Brown
Kanawha United Presbyterian Church is set to kick-off the Spring 2008 version of their popular Kanawha Forum program series on Wednesday, March 5. The always well-attended series offers a free, noon-time musical concert in the church’s sanctuary, and then a delectably gourmet luncheon in the adjoining fellowship hall. The luncheons, which cost a mere $10 and are lovingly prepared by an all-volunteer staff, are available by pre-paid reservations and always feature a soup, salad, bread and dessert, not to mention a beverage sampler of tea, coffee and, sometimes, lemonade.
The schedule, complete with a list of performances and detailed menu items, is as follows:
March 5
Graham Bailey (tenor) and Ron Neal (piano) performing ‘Songs of Broadway’
Menu: Tom’s Mexican Meatball Soup, Southwestern Cornbread Salad, Cheese-Garlic Biscuits & Chocolate Cupcakes
March 12
Colleen Tan (violin) and Mary Rose Nair (piano)
Menu: Goldilock’s Gourmet Spinach Soup, Cha-Cha Chicken Salad, Lemon Blueberry Muffins & Carrot Cake
March 26

This looks good… and interesting with the music. Not to change the subject, but, have you been to the Barge? Prices are a little less than the bridge road bistro, but the food is similar in style and quality - actually my spouse and I both preferred the Barge. They are new, so the service still has a little way to go, but overall, I liked it. Location is odd, and the high prices might hurt them since the bridge road bistro already has most of the pretentious crowd locked up, but I’m definitely going to be supporting the Barge with my wallet.

I cannot recommend the Kanawha Forum enough. The concerts are always top-notch, and the food… well, it’s delightful.
As for the Barge, it has been on the list… just waiting for better weather. Thanks for recommending!

Weird… my double comment is because when I posted the first one it didn’t show up, so I posted a second. This blog must be moderated? Feel free to delete the second (and this post)

Brooke,
Thanks to you blog I got to attend 2 of the Forums this season: The Soul Doctors and Sandra Groce. It was wonderful. Not only did I feel rejuvinated afterwards, having gotten out of the office and relaxed for the full hour, but I bought the recipe book of this season’s meals. I have missed out on so many evening things this past year (with a new baby) and this was the perfect event to treat myself without missing out on time with my family! Thanks for letting me in on the secret. I am now on the mailing list and plan to go in the Fall as well.

Jennifer,
I’m so glad you made it to (and enjoyed) the Kanawha Forum! The entertainment is always incredible, and the food… well, it’s just as good, isn’t it?
