Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road; Hello Pun!

“An outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks …”
By Brooke A. Brown
No one likes ice cream more than I do. Absolutely no one. Well, except perhaps for mothers-to-be. But even then I’d only settle for a draw on such a wager. I consider myself a true connoisseur (or was that glutton?) of this sweet, creamery concoction. There’s a very specific, most wonderful ice cream in the world that is, to me, truly beyond compare… but I’m gonna save my adoration of it for another post. (Here’s a hint: you can only get it in Ohio.)
I was just informed, however, via my ICT-3000 ice cream telefax machine (not really) that a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor is being unleashed, only it will not be available to the masses. Instead, it’s release is part of a pretty cool promotion. On July 21st of this year, Sir Elton John will perform his first concert in the state of Vermont. Yeah, so? So, that means he will have performed at least one concert in all 50 states! That’s a pretty cool feat, if I do say so myself.
Therefore, in honor of such an accomplishment, Ben and Jerry will offer Vermontians a new Elton John inspired flavor – Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road – exclusively in their Vermont Scoop Shops from July 18 to July 25. All proceeds will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “I can’t think of a more fun way to celebrate playing my 50th state than having Ben & Jerry’s create a special ice cream with all of my favorite flavors and ingredients,” said Sir Elton. “I’m especially pleased that they will be donating the proceeds to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.”
So why am I sharing this news with you, especially considering we non-Vermontians won’t have access to the new flavor? Well, it is ice cream, which I love, so that’s number one. Secondly, I admire Ben & Jerry’s philanthropic gesture and unwavering state pride. But mostly because I’m always up for a good play on words, and I must say this one – Yellow Brickle Road – is a winner. Certainly better than ‘Marshmallow Across the Wafer’ or ‘Crocodile Rocky Road’ or… You get the picture.

Oh Ben and Jerry…why must you taunt us with such decadence, only to keep it to yourselves, and your fellow citizens of Vermont?!?!?!? I propose we start a write-in campaign to get this delicious-sounding treat nationwide!

mmmm…. Ice Cream is my all time favorite treat. This one sounds delicious! Chocolate, peanut butter cookie dough, and white chocolate! My mouth is watering!

Nice hint. I’m all about Graeter’s too.
Actually, I worked there for a while when I was in school at U.C. They maintain the “French Pot Method” and make the ice cream in small batches, and they break the chocolate by hand with paddles (which ends up being those “chips” at least the size of miniature Hershey bars.)
Dee. Licious.
P.S. I thought Crocodile Rocky Road was clever.

Nice catch, Jennifer! Graeter’s is the, er, greatest ice cream in the world! There was a special on Food Network quite a while back where they explained the “French Pot Method.” It was fascinating. The best part is that the chocolate is dark and soft, not at all brittle.
I may have to order some Graeter’s now…

Yes, Graeter’s is good. But, hands down the BEST ice cream comes from Aglamesis Brothers in Cincy.
It makes Graeter’s seem like run of the mill.

And what’s up - has the Gazzette removed the limks to the Gazz blogs from the homepage?

Dude, you have GOT to check out the Underground Kitchen, if you haven’t already. Did you go to the first one? I went Saturday evening, and it was the ultimate dining experience. E-mail me for details, if you haven’t gone yet.

Hey, amodernguy! I’m both offended and intrigued by your comment. Offended at the idea of my beloved Graeter’s being considered “run of the mill,” yet intrigued by this Aglamesis Brothers place and the idea of an ice cream so delicious. The ultimate question, though, is what’s the deal with Cincy’s ability to produce such amazing ice cream?
Jennifer: Thanks for the intel. I’m on a list, just waiting for the call.
