GuestScape: Heads of State

Photos for thegazz.com by Mark Wolfe
Charleston photographer and graphic designer Mark Wolfe (half of the dynamic duo who provided the recent DowntownWV feature “It’s All in the Details”) steps up to the shutter again with this series of three sculpted heads. Where can these folks be found? Says Wolfe: “They are all in a row over the arches of the entrance to the governor’s office in the executive building.”

Ceres, Neptune, and Vesta. Above the west entrance to the west wing of the capitol building, I walked below them for about a year. Now, I walk beneath the busts of Hera, Prometheus, and Perseus above the west entrance to the east wing.

I spent months looking at them as I went to work and comparing features to descriptions and images in books left over from college and general interest. Then, after succeding in the quest, I find this (legis.state.wv.us).
