It’s one of the highest holiday decorations downtown, this wreath on steroids hung from one of the tony condo porches at One Bridge Place. What a nice spot, Walker muses, for an apple martini with a view.

The Quarrier Diner looks good
by day, the Quarrier Diner looks especially good by night. Do not — I repeat — do not let the new library project slated for this downtown quadrant demolish this Art Deco landmark. End of editorial.

A school of Charleston’s finest cruises down Quarrier Street on a cold December’s eve, red tail lights blinking.

In my ongoing blanket coverage of downtown Charleston holiday decorations (and my obstinate attempts to get just a particular shot right), here is one of the trĂ©s jolie wreaths decorating the South Side Bridge. The wreaths are seen in another light — literally –than in the bridge photograph featured in the musical slideshow mentioned in the post below. As always, click to enlarge these photos for a… well, larger view.

Click here to view — and hear — a special DowntownWV holiday slideshow. It features more than two dozen night-and-day photos of Charleston dressed for the holidays, set to a very unconventional “Jingle Bells,” by Adams and Mountain Stage bandmate Steve Hill off their “Christmas Angel” CD. If You like what you hear, you can get the CD at Taylor Books, 226 Capitol St., or by typing Adams’ name into the search box at Tamarack’s website: tamarack.terradon.com

We have dissed these faux pillars at the corner of Quarrier and Hale streets before. But they are made more bearable by a — albeit faux, too — Xmas tree in the foyer.

India is a big country full of religions, and we do not aver to know whether the Taste of India’s Indians along McFarland Street are Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Zoraostrians, Christians, Fruitarians or what. But they certainly are in some kind of holiday spirit. This is the only place downtown, by the way, where you can find snack candy that gives your throat fourth degree spice burns.

You’re future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades — at least, if you are going to sit out front of Taylor’s Books of a Friday night during the holiday season.

XmasScape: Give Me a Light

If you were a philodendron, you could almost photosynthesize in the glow of all the extra luminesence downtown, now that wreathes, trees and lights glow from every corner and building. As here, near the intersection of Quarrier and Capitol streets.

Look to the window display just to the left of of the front door to Taylor Books, 226 Capitol St., and you’ll espy this signature Charlie Jupiter Hamilton holiday family. The papa man looks like a lot of us look when the holiday’s stressors — gift-buying, gift-wrapping, gift-billing, gift-returning — get the better of one.
