Firefighters spend far more time polishing their firetrucks than actually driving them. So it must be a thrill to finally get to go tearing through the streets — in this case, turning onto Summers Street off Virginia — in the shiniest red thing around.

Found most of the post here to be quite interesting and informative; this one entry about one of the versions of the emergency vehicles though is just plain inaccurate.
Why does one see Firetrucks being driven to many grocery stores and eateries all around town on a daily basis? I’ve personally witnesses these trucks at the same grocery stores literally seven days a week; one can almost set their watch by it. Where’s all the mileage logs for review?
The occasional run might be somewhat acceptable. But given the high price of these very vehicles, insuring them, and alson fueling them up is quite substantial. This also comes from the same “emergency services” budget which earlier in the year stated that they’d have to cut down on patrols due to the same earlier mentioned costs.
What gives? There’s nothing quite like a ride around town which is later billed to the taxpaying citizens. Whatever happened to effective management and oversight?
