Word is out that the first person on the agenda to receive a History Hero award Thursday is fired State Archivist Fred Armstrong.

Deservedly so. Someone should devise an Anti-history or A-historical Award for operatic arts leaders.

Speaking of the several controversies under the dome, this e-mail has been circulating around town:
“Fred Armstrong lost his job because he opposed the current administration’s idea of dismantling the archives library and constructing a restaurant/gift shop in its place.
“WCHS Radio is conducting a poll with the following question: ‘Do you favor moving the state archives library to make room for a café and gift shop in the WV Cultural Center?’
“Please go to www.58wchs.com to vote. The poll to vote is located on the left side of the screen about half way down. It looks like the vote is going 2 to 1 in favor of replacing the archives with snacks and trinkets. I guess you can tell from my language which way I voted. It’s hard to imagine that WCHS talk radio listeners are going to support a snack bar in the Culture and History building….”
