What’s your favorite old building in Charleston that should not, at all costs, be demolished or allowed to fade away until its too costly to save? Here’s mine. What are the plans for this Art Deco landmark once — if? — the new library plans come to fruition in this section of downtown Charleston? How about the Quarrier Diner Coffeeshop?

In 1954 I was a RN inthe office of a doctor across the street from the Quarrier Diner and each morning I would go there and get something to eat before office hours started. As I now live in Fl. I have not been back for 20 yrs. What a shame that many memories are lost with the destruction of older buildings. Why do some think nthat all things have to be new to be good.?

Right you are. Jail the city officials on a diet of gruel and bug juice, I say. who do not protect the Quarrier Diner from the wrecking ball.

Did you mean most WORTH saving? Since you repeated the odd phrase, “most worst saving,” it’s either a grammatical error or some cool new figure of speech.

My mother worked the counter in the 50’s and 60’s and I spent many afternoons after school (CCHS) waiting and watching ‘the world as I knew it’ go by - I have not been back since ‘62 but do miss the ole place - I now live in AZ - SAVE IT FROM THE WRECKING BALL!! TEARING DOWN BUILDINGS DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN PROGRESS
