Threefold Theory’s Tour Blog – Day 1: Thursday, March 8, 2007

First things first. When you’re driving or riding in a 31-foot RV, there are some things you need to know:

It’s always Miller Time, even if you’re not drinking. The cabin shakes something fierce on the road, and when you try to walk, you look drunk. Using the restroom is like trying to use a Porta Potty during an earthquake. 7.1 miles per gallon would make even the staunchest Republican do a double take. U-Turns become 3-point turns, even in the face of oncoming traffic. If the RV is rented under your name, you don’t get to play any drinking games (because you’re driving).

Despite some of the downsides to traveling in a behemoth of a vehicle, the first leg of our trip — to Savannah, Ga. — was pretty enjoyable. We definitely got too much food, and not enough alcohol – an oversight that will quickly be remedied at the nearest convenience store Friday. If you’ve never been to Savannah, then you definitely need to go. Not only do they have the world’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day party, but the city has no open container laws – translation: you can booze it up as you walk up and down the uneven cobblestone pathways of River Street. The drinks arestrong and the food is good.

What’s better, there’s no need to hit a club to catch some entertainment; you can find some great music right on the street: We found this guy along with his partner (not pictured) singing some fabulous two part harmonies. They did a great rendition of “What a Wonderful World,” along with another blues number.

Moving along down the street, with a frosty daiquiri from Wet Willie’s, we found proof that the Blue Parrot in Charleston has an evil twin:

We stopped for one more photo on River Street before enjoying dinner at the Cotton Exchange.

Unfortunately, we had no time to continue our excursion – tomorrow is another long day on the RV. Destination: Miami. Tune in tomorrow.
