WEEKEND WATCH: 2.29-3.1
Still trying to shake a scorching case of the flu, staring into the abyss of the end of our employment here at Charleston Newspapers, we bring you news on the bar scene! Three solid shows at the Empty Glass (410 Elizabeth St.) this weekend.
Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue (who were chosen as a print Gazz “Best Bet” so that’s cool) returns to the Glass Thursday night, Charleston’s VooDoo Katz play Friday, and headlining the weekend Saturday night is Josh Preston and Brad Sweitzer and the Young Sophisticates.

But let’s get back to the bird’s eye view of rockshows…statewide; that’s what the Weekend Watch series provides. Unknown Hinson is joined by The Bible Beaters at the V Club (6th Ave. and 8th St.) in Huntington Friday. Threefold Theory and Ten Carp Lie are at The Blue Parrot (14 Capitol St.) in Charleston Friday, then, 3FT is joined by The Billy Carri Band for a Parrot show Saturday night.

It’s Birds does a show up in Morgantown at 123 Pleasant Street. And The Lonely H comes to Huntington for a show at the V Club Saturday.

But let’s say you’re in Huntington on Tuesday night, and you don’t think there’d be many — if any — cool rock shows on a Tuesday, right? Well, hold on to your print Gazz cause you may be missing Bud Carroll and the Southern Souls open for Devon (son of Greg) Allman’s band Honeytribe. Cover is $8 day of the show, but the good news is, it’s an 18 and over show, so Herd students would have a nice night of rocking indeed with this one.
And bundle up out there — like that helps when everyone in your office is sick.
