WEEKEND WATCH 10.24-10.25
Got a bit of a late start this week, but there are still some cool shows this weekend in town and beyond, so let’s knock this out…
FRI 10.24
Let’s say yer in Charleston, like to rock, and don’t know where to go. Well, cool your jets and get to The Empty Glass in Charleston. Bud Carroll and the Southern Souls return to Charleston’s historic East End and will likely rock the joint late. The Glass is located at 410 Elizabeth St., and cover should be like $5, which is worth it for this rockin’ three-piece.
Out in Shepherdstown Friday The Demon Beat will have their CD release show. We know it’s way far out there, but we think they rock. Check their page out for details if you read this in time.
The Hillbilly Gypsies play 123 Pleasant St. in Morgantown Friday night. We’re definitely down with their style; should be a good show. $10 cover
SAT 10.25
Jeff Ellis releases “Covering The Distance,” the long-awaited follow up to last year’s “A Front Seat For The End Of The World” Saturday night at The V Club in Huntington. Parkersburg’s Todd Burge, another accomplished performer in his own right, is scheduled to open. “Distance” is one of our favorite CDs of 2008, and will likely make your list, too. Click here to read some short article on Ellis by some guy who does stuff for The Gazz sometimes.
Our undead punk rock friends in The Renfields come to town Saturday night (!) for a spooktacular Halloween show at the Blue Parrot put on by Kasket Entertainment. Local horror-core rappers Brain Trauma, along with Meuwl and B-Rude and White Mic, join the Transylvania pogo-punk outfit. Cool sounding costume contest; best costume wins $100, per Kasket’s flyer for the show. The Parrot is at 14.5 Capitol St. in Charleston.
