WEEKEND WATCH: Halloween edition

It’s time to get dressed up and rock out, as area bands are set to celebrate Halloween with cool shows lined up in Charleston, Huntington and Morgantown.

FRI 10.31

The Empty Glass in Charleston hosts their ninth annual Halloween Hootenanny Friday night, with longtime area rockers Noizbox joining The Ghosts of Now, Charleston area horror punkers The Big Bad, and a cool new band called The Drunken Gentlemen. The Gentlemen (and we use that term loosely) feature former Pistol Whippers Guy Parker and Dirt Reynolds, and from what we know, this is their first show. So get dressed up and head to the East End; cover is $8 in civilian clothes, $6 in costume. Be there at like 10 p.m.

Out in Huntington Friday there’s a cool Halloween show with our punk rock friends in The Concept heading out there for a show with one of our favorite punk bands, Huntington’s Sarasota, and Down Goes Frazier at Shamrock’s Pub (formerly Marley’s Doghouse). Defintely check out Sarasota if you haven’t yet, and head to this show if you’re out that way. Show starts at 10 p.m., cover is $6, which ain’t bad.

Huntington’s Bad Employees headline Club Echo’s Halloween show Friday night, with special guest DJ Charlie Brown. Bad Employees have a nice electronic rock sound; check ‘em out online on MySpace to get a taste. There will be a costume contest with prizes from what we hear, so that’s cool. No info on cover though, so bring extra cash. Show starts at 10 p.m.

SAT 11.1

November kicks off with a belated all-ages Halloween show at 123 Pleasant St. in Morgantown. Headlined by the crazy Morgantown-based ska band Cryptorchid Chipmunk, with Fifteen Chest Shots and Erik Goes to Germany, it’s a good chance for “the kids” to get out. Show starts at 3 p.m., and the cover is $5.

The Big Bad travels to Huntington Saturday night for a show at The V Club (741 6th Ave.) with Morgantown punk band The Revisionists. Show should start around 10 p.m., wear a costume if you want.
