WEEKEND WATCH: 12.12-12.14
As the temperature dips, it’s imperative that whenst planning a night out to see rockin’ area bands, you plan ahead. The Weekend Watch series at thegazz.com has all the shows covered. From Hyatari’s CD release show Friday night in Huntington, to The Concept and friends in Charleston over the weekend, we’ve got the cards laid on the table for ya.
FRI 12.12
Huntington-based “drone” metal band Hyatari is set to release “They Will Surface” Friday night at Club Echo in Huntington. It’s the six-song follow-up to the critically acclaimed “The Light Carriers” released four years ago. The band, in addition to treating showgoers with their heavy, melodic version of metal, is set to run a video soundtrack to the show; that should be killer.
And nobody needs to worry about being offended by Hyatari’s songs: there are no lyrics in their long, drawn out orchestrations. Youngstown, Ohio-based outfit Rebreather will open, to help Hyatari release its sophomore effort to the masses. Bring extra cash for cover. Club Echo is located at 1318 Fourth Avenue, show starts around 10 p.m. Pick up a copy of the new CD; it rocks.
Charlottesville, Virginia-based alt-folk/bluegrass sextet The Hackensaw Boys come to The V Club in Huntington Friday night. They’ll be joined by The Wild Rumpus (”rock and roll with banjo”), a cool-sounding Americana four-piece from nearby Fayetteville. Give “Whiskey and Sin” a listen on their MySpace site, if you have a second. The show starts at 10 p.m., and cover is $10. The V Club is located at 741 6th Avenue in, yes say it with us? Huntington. Call 304.781.0680 for more info.
If punk rock is more your thing and you’re in Huntington Friday night, swing by Shamrock’s Irish Pub (2050 3rd Ave.) for Huntington’s Down Goes Frazier, Dayton, Ohio’s The Story Changes and Hurricane’s Party Or Die. Show starts around 10 p.m., and cover is just $5.
SAT 12.13
Kasket Entertainment and local horror core rappers Brain Trauma have their Fourth Annual Pimpin’ Christmas Party at The Blue Parrot a little early this year, as they welcome our punk rock friends in The Concept and area rappers V Sinizter and White Mic. Show starts at 10 p.m., cover is just $5, but sorry, all you cute little minors; it’s a 21-and over show. Call 342.0581 for any questions.

If reggae is more your thing, The Empty Glass has Shayar and Krooshal Force Saturday night. A nice vibe for this venue; show up around 10 p.m., expect to pay like $5 for cover, but call ahead at 345-9893 for any questions.
SUN 12.14
There’s a special show Sunday afternoon at The LaBelle Theater in South Charleston as The Concept welcomes their friends in Pittsburgh’s pop punk four-piece Punchline back to town with their Steel City friends in The SpacePimps for a gig with local punks Drop Ded Phred, who are back doing shows. Doors open at 5 p.m., show starts at 5:30, and cover is $12, and hey, Christmas comes early for “the kids” as it is an all-ages show. Nice. The LaBelle is located at 311 D Street in South Charleston.
