Cast of Characters
Although I’ve been writing about my cast of characters for years, this is the first opportunity I’ve had to show them off.
To the right is my girl, Celeste, who was not quite 8 when this picture was taken at her June 2005 dance recital.
But this is how she looks most
of the time.
This is my husband, Geoff.
And our dog, Furry Murry . . .
Our demented cat, Squirt, and our shelter cat, Gypsy . . .
And finally, Sully, who is sort of the neighborhood cat, with us as home base. (He likes dogs, but hates cats, so he has his own room when the weather is bad.)

Congratulations on your new blog. As you know, I have followed your writing from afar–Kiev, Ukraine and Moscow, and even from Istanbul where I now have another office.
Keep up the entertaining snapshots of life. I always find them interesting.

Hi Karin-
I’ve been reading your column for a loong time.
Its nice to see the faces that go with your stories.
As the father of a now grown up and married daughter, I often vicariously participate in the conversations and exchanges between you and your daughter that I know from personal experience can vary from philosophical exchange to senseless ramble, but its all precious in retrospect.

Hi Karin,
I have been enjoying your column for sometime now and just read your blog. Celeste is beautiful. I used to lifeguard at Scarlet Oaks and remember her as a baby. I also spent lots and lots of time at your neighbor’s house with
Courtney and have laughed at your references to them in your column. I must say that Furry Murry is quite the handsome dog. Thanks for many a laugh.
