My mom has a photo album dedicated to nothing but cuts, scrapes, swollen lips and the like. My son knocked out a front baby tooth (one that was not yet ready to come out) in a bicycle accident when he was five years old. His other front tooth eventually came out and was replaced by the permanent tooth before this one grew in. It was nearly two and a half years between smiley pictures. The worst part of it though, was the swelling for the first few days after the accident. I have a profile photo of him with his upper lip swollen out just about even with the tip of his nose. We laugh about it now, but he didn't see any humor in the situation at the time. I know what you mean.
