“MountainWord,” the new gazzblog devoted to readings, interviews and profiles of works by writers with roots in West Virginia, begins an occasional series of podcasts with an area poet. This first show, hosted by Charleston Gazette news editor Vic Burkhammer, features Marshall University English professor and poet John McKernan (photo at right), whose poems have been published in The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review and many other places. On the podcast, McKernan reads “The Dark out the Window Tonight” and “The Dawn” from his recently published book of poems, “Resurrection of the Dust” (Backwaters Press). Catch McKernan live when he reads poems from the book starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Taylor Books, 226 Capitol St.
