NOT VANISHED: Refined Savage editor cranks out another issue

trs5.jpgWe had feared that maybe poet José Alejandro Peña had vanished, but I discovered he has published four of my poems in the most recent issue of The Refined Savage.

I had submitted maybe six last summer after his call for poets. We met downtown Charleston at Taylor Books for a John McKernan poetry reading.

Personal note: J. A. Peña, if you please, give me a call when you get a chance: 348-5184 …. Just wanting to catch up with you, and maybe you could read a poem or two for MountainWord.

By the way, here is Peña’s bio, from his Web site:

J. A. Peña, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In 1986, J. A. Peña received the National Poetry Prize, for “The Dreamed Retaliation,” a collection of poems dealing with provocative philosophical issues. He has translated into Spanish poems by Vasko Popa, Wallace Stevens, Mark Strand, and Ezra Pound, among others. Currently, he lives outside Charleston, West Virginia.

    Vic,
The poems are great! Especially enjoyed the one about the feel of fishing at Spruce Knob Lake.
