NEW PATHWAYS: Mixed-genre poet Claudia Rankine
Creative writing professor
Claudia Rankine at Pomona
College in California produces
multimedia poetry — sound,
video and photos. Her
much-praised work,
“Don’t Let Me Be Lonely: An American Lyric,”
blends poetry, essay, and
video imagery.
Pomona College Magazine Online has a Robert Creeley recommendation of her work: “Claudia Rankine here manages an extraordinary melding of means to effect the most articulate and moving testament to the bleak times we live in I’ve yet seen. It’s master work in every sense, and altogether her own.”

If we’re looking for a W.Va. tie-in, I’ll just say I’d put West Virginians’ depression and dissolving sense of self up against almost anyone’s. Rankine is a kindred spirit.
