EVENT: ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ runs through Saturday at MU
HUNTINGTON – Marshall University Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” at 8 p.m. daily April 23-26 at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on the Huntington campus.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, Marshall faculty and staff, $7 for children 17 and under and free to Marshall students with a valid I.D. They are on sale at the performing arts center box office, which is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“At the request of the Queen, Shakespeare wrought this farce starring Sir John Falstaff of his Henry IV plays, here transplanted from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century, where he attempts to seduce two wealthy married women who are a bit too smart for him.”
Plenty of tickets remain available, according to Sam Kincaid. The direct number for the ticket office is (304) 696-2787.
By the way, Happy 444th, Shakespeare!
Wait a second! I thought today was Shakespeare’s birthday, April 23. Truth is, nobody knows for sure — someone figured that since his baptism date was recorded as April 26 and it was usually three days after birth back then, well, give or take — the 23rd it is.
The Folger Shakespeare Library has celebrations and games for young and old coming up on Sunday, April 27, certainly a better chance on the weekend to get a crowd together. The Marshall event seems more achievable, considering that it is in W.Va.
Maybe you’ll want to plan your own birthday bash for the Bard, but if you do, sword fighters, jousters, take care! Air swords maybe.
