<description>The impetus for the formation of the CCD, was the "Black Banjo Gathering", at App State, April 2005.

Giddens went specifically to meet Thompson at the Gathering.

Robinson and Flemons were also in attendance, Flemons having flown from AZ.

The original Gathering website: http://www.rhisong.com/blackbanjo/

The banjo has long been king in the Carolinas as the lead instrument. Whilst the fiddle is the more popular lead in the other southern states.

Checkout the Old Hat Records releases of "Violin,Sing the Blues for Me", and "Folks, He Sure Do Pull Some Bow."
Rare, early 78s on CD, featuring great performances by black string bands.
