SONGOFTHEDAY: “Theme Park” by Andy Park
The gazz audio blog SoundCheck is back on the web. We begin with an occasional “Song of the Day” feature on area musicians with “Theme Park” by Andy Park of Charleston, W.Va. Beware! The song’s hook may lodge in your brain all day: “Your love is a theme park — of personality disorders…” Hear him perform this and other songs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sat., Oct. 6 at Bluegrass Kitchen in the East End of Charleston, W.Va.

We asked Andy to introduce himself to those who don’t already know his stylish guitar work with Voodoo Katz and Crazy Jane.
Andy Park’s Self-Bio: i have been playing original music since 1991. i was the guitar player in the alternative rock band Crazy Jane. we released three CDs. i sang one song recorded with CJ, a track entitled “baby talk.” after CJ disbanded (don’t ask me why), i joined the Voodoo Katz. i wrote and sang “mothman” on the first VK release. i have one song on the new VK CD (due Nov. 3) “suffer.” i am currently working on a new solo disc that i plan on releasing early 2008. i wrote, recorded, and mixed the song “Theme Park” on garageband at home. i feel my solo material is in the singer/songwriter AAA genre. my gig fantasy is to perform “Theme Park” in an opening set for John Prine when he plays at the Municipal Auditorium in December. that way i can meet and hang out with one of my songwriting heros. my approach to songwriting is personal expression. i don’t think what i do will ever be mainstream. at the same time, i am an optimist. i like for my songs to have happy endings.
