Gazz wine blogger John Brown is often asked about whether he supports adding a flavor dimension to wine by aging it in oak barrels. Does the oak actually improve the taste? His answer to that question goes all the way back to his grandfather’s wine cellar. View the latest “WineBoy” webcast — and see Brown’s own oak barrel– at the “WineBoy” blog at thegazz.com. Wine appreciation. What an “emperor’s new clothes” kind of scene. I’ll tell you a story…
I was thirty-eight years old, back in the dim days of 7-mhz CPUs and Sally’s nymphomania. I was invited to my first wine-tasting. I attended. In short: First glass, tasted like wine. Second glass, tasted like wine. Third glass, the same. And so on. I became abusive and was ejected bodily from the tasting by some fuzzy, indistinct guys.
Wine? Don’t talk to me about wine.

You’ve convinced me! To wit: the emperor has been exposed, all wine tastes the same, and -if you knew Sally, like I knew Sally - oh, oh, oh what a gal!
