The Courier - indie feature made in Wheeling

thecourier.jpg

Duke Horstemeyer,a long-time member of The West Virginia Library Commission and a library activist in Weirton for decades, is the ONLY person to let me know that “The Courier,” a very nice sounding indie feature was made around Wheeling, having its world premiere on Sunday, May 20th, at the Victoria Vaudeville Theater which is also used in the film.

The storyline is about a nuclear device being delivered via the Ohio River. Greg Sabo, the producer and cinematographer,  grew up in Shadyside, but now lives in Columbus. Hopefully it will be shown elsewhere in WV and the country. I hope to write a review of the film soon. Thanks Duke……who donated a copy of a very interesting film about Weirton to the WVLC collection-Weirton
U.S.A.

28 mins.  1948

A film about the history of
Weirton, West Virginia. Mr. Weir is shown in the film standing overlooking the town named after him. The links to Canadian iron ore is also shown. In fact, the premiere of a film about the Canadian mines is shown having its world premiere with marching bands and klieg lights.
