Crimson Rose - a short film to be shot in Weirton

Rik Rekowski, director of the Mary H. Weirton Public Library in Weirton, WV called me at home during lunch. He had a visiting film director, Roger Smith, from near Sharon, Pa. in town to scout locations for his film, “Crimson Rose.” Smith said that he fell in love with Welch, WV, but didn’t have the time or money to shoot his film there, preferring Weirton as a lot closer but still having the look he wanted.

I told him about other films being shot in Weirton including “Reckless,” Aidan Quinn’s first movie - and my first Hollywood film that I worked on in WV. I also told him about the new tax credits available to filmmakers in WV, suggesting that he contact Pam Haynes at the WV Film Office. Rik has always been a real WV film fan, attending all of my WV film programs at the state library conferences. I was glad that Rik finally got a chance to be part of the “industry.”
