The Lincoln Standard Visits Me at The Cultural Center
Carolyn Harmon is a well-known free-lance writer in the Kanawha Valley. She wrote the current cover story for Goldenseal about goats, and wrote many stories for Graffiti magazine - where I wrote until Dec. 2006. She now writes feature stories for the Lincoln Standard.
Carolyn e-mailed me, asking about ideas concerning Lincoln County artists. After I sent her some ideas, she decided to write a story about ME….Unfortunately, she came to my office on the busiest day ever - Nat Hentoff called me from the Village Voice, Sandy Berman called me since he was in USA Today, Fred Barkey stopped in, and much more. The article appears in today’s Lincoln Standard - “State library hides many treasurers, including films about Lincoln.”[ County]
As a professional film exhibitor since September 1972, I have had to deal with a lot of press people. When I came to WV in Sept. 1978, I recall telling the reporter how to start her story,” Steve Fesenmaier’s uncle was the most famous boxer promoter in the upper Midwest…..” Unfortunately, reporters are always low paid and in a rush…..I myself was barely paid a nickel for 15 years of monthly columns at Graffiti……and during the last two years, writing a weekly column put me in a rush.
Carolyn also interviewed Ken Hechler. Go girl! Maybe you can watch some of those lost films about Chuck Yeager sometime….
