Henry Louis Gates to present Eyes on Prize, More

Henry Louis Gates, Jr., one of West Virginia’s most famous native sons, will be returning home in October to serve as the Appalachian Writer in Residence at Shepherd University. On Monday, October 1 at 4 PM he will present an episode of “Eyes on the Prize” called “Awakenings” and then present at 7 PM the same day “Wonders of the African World.”

Several years ago First Lady Rachael Worby hosted a series at the Governor’s Mansion called “Arts and Letters.” Dr. Gates was a guest twice. You can check out the following video documents of his presentation from any WV public library using the interlibrary loan system.

Harvard’s African-American Studies Department, leads us in a celebration
