Enoch Hicks now lives in Dayton, Ohio but has always kept his WV roots in War, Mc Dowell County. He recently   presented the first public showing of his new 120 minute film, “A Flaming Rock!Coal.” On October 7th, from 11 am-4 pm, he will appear at Tamarack in Beckley to autograph copies of his new book and DVDs.

Using vintage film clips from various sources including the WV State Archives, the film tells the story of the early coal miners that sacrificed their lives to provide energy to the nation.

There are some additional extra short films - “Reflections - a History of Mining Safety,”(12 mins.), “Pioneering Underground Mining- A History of Mining Machinery”(11 mins.),” “Disaster at Tippleville Mine- A Simulated Mine Explosion”(29 mins, silent) and “The Town of War, WV- A Typical Coal Mining Town”(9 min.)

He screened the film in War, bringing along 1,000 copies - all gone for now. He thinks that many, many people interested in the history of culture will be interested in this film.

He has also published a new double-book that he calls “Appalachian Legacy” & “The Quest.” You can learn more about this book and another DVD he has produced, and more at    McClain Printing. The book sells for $24.95 plus $6 shipping and handling. It runs 256 pages that includes photos and diagrams. More info on the DVD “A Coal Trail” and the coming feature, “A Flaming Rock” can be found at the film’s website - www.aflamingrock.com.
