Dr. Fred Pollock and his wife Carol finally made it to Sundance this year. He’s having a great year, traveling to Israel to lecture on emergency orthopedic surgery, hosting the 10th year of the WV Jewish Film Festival, and directing ER orthopedic surgery at CAMC - which won a national award for its care of people getting hip and knee replacements. Below are some of the picts he took at Sundance plus the “Smile” he got from the Charleston Gazette…..

When asked by the many film industry people who he was, he told them that he was a doctor and also the director of the WV Jewish Film Festival.

The most exciting film he saw was the new film about Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young called “CSNY Deja Vu.”

He also attended a workshop on the social documentary, “Stories that Must be Told - Todays Human Rights Documentary Movement.” He told me that he was having a blast and that I should attend one sometime.

( I have attended the New York Film Fest once and the Telluride Film Fest shortly becoming moving from Minneapolis to WV. I program film fests - not attend them.)

Here is Fred’s Monday  morning e-mail about his trip -

Today is Monday and going back to WV tomorrow..Sundance was a great experience with skiing thrown in. Today we skiied in a blizzard at
Deer Park. Survived. See a few attached photos. The guy at the mic is Neil Young introducing his film “CSNY Deja Vu”, a strongly anti Bush film. Great…Saw 8 features 2 short programs…Video clips and recommendations to follow…(see picts below)

WV filmmaker Morgan Spurlock had a new film at Sundance called “Where In the World is Osama bin Laden?” I watched a 25 minute “best of fest” show on the Sundance Channel on Sunday, giving me a nice review of what happened there this year.

The Charleston Gazette gave a “smile” to the leaders of the WV Jewish Film Festival, by name Dr. Fred Pollock, who for ten years has been the driving force in bringing the best new Jewish films to West Virginia.
