New films on libraries to be shown in Flatwoods April 3rd

Clips from Hollywood Librarian, Remote Access and Book ‘Em will be shown in Flatwood, WV on April 3rd as part of the West Virginia Library Association’s annual spring conference called “Spring Fling.” It seems like lots of movies these days show scenes in libraries. Remote Access is the most touching film I have ever seen about libraries, people, and animals.

The new spring 2008 film Jumper opens with two scenes set in the Ann Arbor Public Library when the hero first uses his ability to teleport anywhere. ( Apparently he feels safest there.)  He instinctively sends himself to the library when he is drowning.

Emilio Estevez plans on making a new feature film about the homeless in the Los Angeles Public Library.

Probably still the greatest film made in a library is Wim Wenders “Wings of Desire” about angels that live in the Berlin Public Library. Nicholas Cage starred in a remake called “City of Angels.” Julian Samuel, a Canadian filmmaker, has made two great films about libraries, “The Library in Crisis” and “Save and Burn.” I would still like to help someone make a film about Sanford Berman, the world’s greatest librarian. Indeed, there is a four-minte film made about Sandy’s vast contributions to the library world made in 2004 and shown to thousands of librarians at the national conference when he received the highest award given a librarian by the national organization, Honorary Membership. I just might have to show this short film too.

tENT just posted a 8 min. version of his film, “Book ‘Em” which can be watched at YouTube.
