Gov. Manchin sent the following letter of greetings that was read by his assistant Steve Pilato before the world premiere of The Widen Film Project at The South Charleston/WVLHA sponsored event-

Greetings from the Governor

As Governor, it is my pleasure to welcome you each to this evening’s premiere of the film depicting the coalfield battle of Widen, West Virginia [Clay County.] I deeply regret I cannot join you personally; however, please rest assured I am with you in spirit.

The Mountain State is rich in historical importance, and I am glad this even will be captured forever on film. It is imperative we, as West Virginians, remember our heritage and be uplifted by where we have been. Great strides in the labor movement emerged from the Clay County battle, and our citizens remain proud of this progress.

Please accept my most-sincere best wishes. I have no doubt the premiere will be an inspiring experience for everyone involved.

With warmest regards,

Joe Manchin III

Governor
