Nat Hentoff’s Last Voice Column

nathentoff.jpg

Nat Hentoff is one of my biggest heroes, along with Ken Hechler, Sandy Berman and filmmaker Les Blank. I have spoken with Hentoff many times, helping him cover the amazing moral collapse of the American Library Association. My national professional organization failed, unlike virtually every other group like Amnesty International, to protest the imprisonment of librarians in Cuba. Hentoff gave back an ALA award and has continued to write about ALA’s abandonment since Castro used our invasion of Iraq to cover his arrest of more than 100 librarians and journalists.   Read his last Village Voice column after 50 years at the great newspaper. Hats off to Nat - may you live and write  forever!
