More about Thomas (T.C.) Kuhn

Archeologist and novelist Thomas Kuhn, a Kanawha Valley native, will be a guest speaker at the Labelle Theater/Museum in South Charleston.  His presentation will be a general look at the significant prehistory of the Kanawha Valley and its first inhabitants from the end of the Ice Age until the last native peoples abandoned the region.

Focusing on his People of the Stone series of prehistoric novels set in the Ohio Valley region, the author will detail the actual events surrounding the creation and importance of the South Charleston Mound, the second largest in WVA.  The mound and its principal occupant form the backdrop for Mr. Kuhn’s just released novel, A DARK WINGED SHADOW, the fourth novel in his series.  Set in the triangle formed today by Charleston, Point Pleasant, and Huntington, his new novel is a tale of ancient spiritual forces, family betrayal and conflict, political intrigue, and romance amidst a backdrop of familiar places and forgotten events that occurred in the great Kanawha Valley long before the first Europeans arrived.

Mr. Kuhn, who now resides in South Carolina, is a graduate of South Charleston High School and Marshall University.  After serving as an officer in the Marine Corps, he obtained his graduate degree in Anthropology from Eastern New Mexico University in 1974 and later returned to work and lived in the Huntington area for many years.  While living in WVA he was the creator and operator of Rattler Crafts, an arts and crafts business internationally known for its recreations of prehistoric Native American culture. In addition to his archeological work in both the Southwest and Ohio Valley regions, he has done consulting work for several museums and other institutions over a thirty year career dealing with many aspects of ancient and modern native America.  Publishing as T.C. Kuhn, the author currently teaches geography and archeology part-time at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina, where he continues to work on his series of novels detailing the major periods and controversies of prehistoric America.

Mr. Kuhn will be available before and after the presentation to answer questions, identify artifacts, and to offer personalized copies of A DARK WINGED SHADOW and the first three novels in his People of the Stone series.  For more information on the author or the books see his interactive website www.peopleofthestone.com END #South Charleston Museum
